What Are Chemical Peels ?
Chemical peels have been around for a long time and for a good reason—they work! Addressing a wide range of skin concerns and conditions from acne scars and uneven skin tone to melasma and fine lines and wrinkles, there is a peel for pretty much any skin problem.
What are skin peels?
They harness the power of naturally occurring acids and active ingredients to deeply exfoliate and brighten the skin. The treatment stimulates new cell growth and collagen production, helping to reveal fresher, clearer, brighter complexion.
At Orskin, we offer a variety of chemical peels to suit each individual’s needs and lifestyle. Our skin peel specialists will advise the perfect peel during your initial consultation and prescribe a bespoke treatment plan.

Types Of Chemical Peel
Chemical peels address different skin conditions by removing the outer layer of damaged skin and revealing a younger-looking skin below. Chemical peels vary in their effectiveness depending on the depth of the peel.
There are three main types of chemical peels; superficial, medium and deep.
- Superficial chemical peels remove the outer epidermal layer of skin to produce a brighter/fresher appearance, reduce fine lines and improve the appearance of pigmentation and acne scarring. Usual peeling agents include Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) such as glycolic acid.
- Medium depth peels (Trichloroacetic acid peels) produce a medium-depth peel. They are more effective at removing fine lines, pigmentary changes and acne scarring. They will cause swelling and a scab will form over the treated area. Recovery from a TCA peel typically takes a week to ten days. Chemical peels are often performed in conjunction with a face lift to deal with fine lines and wrinkles not addressed by the surgical procedure especially around the mouth.
- Deep chemical peels will treat deeper wrinkles but are associated with an increased risk of complications as well as a much longer recovery time.
Following your treatment your skin will appear red, like a sunburn, or slightly darker. The amount of skin peeling associated with The Signature Peel is mainly a sloughing of thin sheets of epidermis skin.
TCA peel
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA). The application is personalised to the needs of each individual patient in order to precisely control the depth of exfoliation to be achieved. The peels are variable in the depth and can be used on all skin types and can also be effective on the neck, chest, hands and arms.
The TCA peel is used to resurface the skin to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation variance over the face, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after acne, sun damage, lentigo solaris and actinic keratosis. The procedure takes up to half an hour depending on the area to be covered. The depth of peel is dependant on the primary skin condition to be treated.
Light exfoliation: This will penetrate the top layer of skin known as the stratum corneum to reduce fine lines, large pores, open comedones (black heads) and minor skin pigmentation problems. The time period for healing differs from person to person.
Deep exfoliation: This penetrates the epidermis to the basal layer which is the bottom layer of the epidermis, the top layer of skin, so it is moderate in depth. This can be applied for deeper lines and acne scarring correction and pigmentation problems the time period for healing differs from person to person.
Standard Peel: This deep peel penetrates the papillary dermis which part of the dermis and is used for marked pigmentation and deep acne scarring problems as well as deep lines and wrinkles. The time period for healing differs from person to person.
After your treatment you will be given detailed information that is specific to your aftercare and you will be prescribed aftercare products to protect and moisturise your skin as part of the healing process. You will be able to contact a specialist member of the team for any queries that you may have. You will then be seen again in a follow up appointment about 10 to 15 days after the procedure. In this appointment the doctor will assess your recovery, the effect of the peel and provide you with an opportunity to ask any further questions and receive further clinical instructions.
